Self-Control

Control is definitely NOT something we have currently amidst the chaos of COVID-19.

For me it was very easy to fall into old habits, snacking more, ignoring portion sizes and not tracking my food intake. Control of these things took a backseat to my growing anxiety of things around me and did not rank highly on the list of important things I could be doing. When I mentioned my lack of discipline this past week, to my friend and co-worker Eleanor, she brought up a great point.
Taking care of yourself is the only thing we DO control over right now. Meal-planning, prep, mindful eating and exercise are still under our control.

Hmph ... hearing it so plainly and direct made perfect sense but is it really that easy?

The short answer is NO. I am an emotional eater, when my anxiety runs high rules go out the door. The long answer is more achievable I think. The pandemic is real, YES. Stress is high, YES. What is our best defense in getting through this? OUR HEALTH. Taking care of ourselves, eating right and exercise will help us be at our best. Only then can we be of any help to those who are vulnerable.

True, many options are not available, gyms, pool, etc., but there is always something you can accomplish. Going for a walk is a great way to not only help with cabin-fever but you can also manage the social distancing from those around you. Be creative with menu planning, try something new and get the whole family involved in the process. Head over to our recipe section on the site and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Have I got this all figured out myself? That's a big NO but I am trying. I'm taking things day by day hour by hour sometimes but I am giving it my best shot.
Self-control does not come easy but the rewards are high when you start seeing results.

Thanks Eleanor for helping me see things a little clearer!
