Aligning Your Intentions With Your 'WHY'

This week at our myWW virtual meeting we were asked if we felt we were in need of a fresh start. And quite honestly it dawned on me the night before that I had really allowed myself to coast along for months. I know what needs to be done but I am doing the bare minimum to keep myself on track instead of doing what I need to do to lose the weight I want to lose. Right now I have been in what I believe is a maintenance type of mode rather than weight loss mode.

At the end of our meeting this week we were asked to set our weekly intentions. Setting intentions is something we hear a lot about lately as it has become part of the trend in developing a healthy mindset. I always thought of an intention as a goal. But that isn't the case at all. Goals and intentions are different. A Goal is something you want to achieve - in this case my goal is to lose weight. And the intention is the "Why" and we need to align our Intentions with our goal. I found a youtube video by Dani Spies from Clean & Delicious that explained this really well and helped me understand the difference.

So let me see if I've got this right...

My Goal is to lose another 40lbs.
Why? Because I want to be able to appreciate my body in the mirror.
Why is it important to me to be able to appreciate my body in the mirror? Because once I am able to be happy with what I see in the mirror my confidence level will be up.
Why is it important to me to be more confident? Because more confidence will open me up to trying new things and change my mindset in a more positive way.

Keywords or phrases to focus my Intentions on:

Confidence
Open
Trying New Things
Change
Mindset
Positive

The actions we take need to support and align with our intentions in order to be able to meet our goal. The message in this image really stuck with me. Had I not taken this weekend to reset, make a fresh start and look back at my 'why' I would surely have continued on the same path.

This week I'm focusing my intention on Change. Changing my mindset so that I can refocus on my 'Why'. The actions that I am taking to be able to focus on my intention is to pre-plan my week, and pre-track all of my meals. I am hoping that doing this will change my mindset from just "you're doing fine" to "you got this!".
