Look Good. Do Good. Feel Good.

There are some things that stick with you through the years and for me it’s the saying “Look Good. Do Good. Feel Good.” I will always remember the first time I heard this saying over 20+ years ago when I was working in retail, the company owner would always use this saying as his sign off to our meetings. At first I thought it was a bit corny, but the more I interacted with him I discovered that this was a mantra he truly believed in and modeled his life after. Fast forward to present day and it is a saying that still rings true.

Looking Good.

No matter what size I am I always strive to look my best. Yes, some days are easier than others to look in the mirror and be happy with what you see, but when you are happy that feeling stays with you for the rest of the day. And for me nothing makes me happier than a great outfit, and of course any great outfit deserves even better shoes. I am not saying that these things have to be expensive, I myself am a devotee of Winners and Marshall's and have not paid full retail price for anything in years. What you need to do is know your body. Everyone has a best feature if you are honest with yourself. Great legs? Show them off with a short skirt and killer shoes. Hourglass figure? Forget the tent dresses, find a figure flattering dress and own those curves! No more hiding behind shapeless garments, go outside your comfort zone and try something new. You can always start small, perhaps a new hairstyle or colour, or a new lipstick? Something that makes you feel that little bit extra special is always a good thing in my book.

Doing Good.

Once you’ve got yourself looking good now it’s is time to do good. This could mean any number of things but generally it means doing something for the greater good. Could be something small such as spending time with someone and really listening to what they have to say. Making and sharing a meal with someone who is on their own.  Or something bigger as in becoming a volunteer in an existing organization that interests you. In doing so you are not only making the people you are helping happier but you are increasing the feel good endorphins within yourself.

Feeling Good.

I would challenge anyone to go through both of the above sections and not feel good about yourself at the end. Life is about more than just the normal day to day things we do to survive, it about the extra things we do to THRIVE! These are the things that truly motivate us and if we can harness these feelings it is only natural that the rest will fall into place.

And when we feel good and do good, looking good becomes the icing on the cake.
