Best of the Month - April Bookshelf

April Bookshelf
I know it looks like a lot of books for April, and it is, but with more time at home I was able to take a chunk out of my TBR pile. Although the physical pile is dwindling I have amassed a great virtual list of books waiting to be read, seems as though I can't to go very long without some sort of purchase. I have really felt the absence of being able to go to a bookstore and browsing the shelves, it is my happy place and the more crowded with books the better.

As you can see I don't have a particular genre I stick to, I read what feels right at the time. From this varied list there are 2 books that I will highlight as standouts for April.

Confess by Colleen Hoover

This author is one of my favorites, as you will notice from my Top 5 Lists post. She writes REAL LIFE stories. Stories that don't gloss over the rough patches in relationships but instead makes them the meat of the story and this book is no exception.

Both main characters in this contemporary romance novel have heavy emotional baggage to overcome while feeling the undeniable pull of chemistry towards one another. There is always a sense of it being too much for one or the other to handle, that this will be the book that will not have the typical happy ending. Then there is the twist, of which this author masters, the twist that makes you read much faster than your brain can comprehend just to figure it all out. LOVE THAT.

If you are looking for a great read you cannot go wrong with this, or any book by Colleen Hoover.

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell

I am highlighting this book because of it's relevance to current events. I can't honestly say that this was a FAVOURITE, as it was extremely hard to read at times, but I do think it is an IMPORTANT read due to the subject matter.

The author is very adept at taking the reader on an emotional journey right along with the main character. From anger to sadness this book had me wanting to throat punch the antagonist, quite a visceral feeling while reading let me tell you, to wanting to wrap my arms around the protagonist to keep her safe.

This one is for those who enjoy socially relevant reads and dark subject matter. You've been warned.

Come back at the end of May to see what makes the list.

Happy reading!
