Best of the Month - May Bookshelf

May Bookshelf

Hello and welcome to the May edition of Best of the Month!

It was a busy month around here with work starting back up and my Going the Social Distance pledge to walk 50kms. With these changes I found that my time spent reading physical books had decreased, to combat this I introduced audio books to my routine. Now while I am walking my way to a healthier lifestyle I can still enjoy an adventure or two.

My list was pretty varied this month, a couple of murder mysteries, a cozy mystery series selection and some contemporary fiction rounded out the lot.

Which brings me to my choice selection for the month ...

CIRCE by Madeline Miller and narrated by Pertida Weeks.

This was my second audio-book of the month, a good one if you want to escape today's craziness as it is based the story of Circe, a goddess from Greek Mythology.  This is the second installment from this author under this theme, the first a retelling of the tale of Achilles. Even if the idea of gods and goddesses is not on your list of happy reading the story and the setting will bring you around, Circe may be from another time but her struggles with acceptance and unearthing her truest self ring true today. I also have to give praise to the narrator as she has one of the most greatest voices and perfectly embodied the character of Circe.

Give it a try and be prepared to be swept away.

Honorable mention for The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley. This was a great whodunnit  set in a rural retreat in Scotland and told from each characters viewpoint.

Until next month ... Happy reading!
