The Power of Silence

Silence Isn't Empty, It's full of answers - Losing, Living, Loving

Those who know me are all well aware of my love of silence, of the peace I feel when there is not a sound to be heard.

All I know is that I am fiercely protective of my solitude. Rarely do I turn on the television when I am home, aside from an hour of streaming in the evenings, music is pumping when I am cooking or cleaning but other than that the house is quiet. My job is hectic and loud, I am constantly dealing with clients and coworkers via the phone or in person. TALK, TALK, TALK is what I do ALL DAY. When I am home I need a break from the noise. I need it for my well being and, as I remind my family, they need to honour it for their own! Even my hobbies reflect this, reading, writing, and my bullet journal all help quiet my over active mind
A spot of quiet contemplation can help matters seem clearer, help lift the fog that settles after a long and busy day, in a way it's my version of meditation. I am never bored or overly eager to return to the noise of life to begin anew. I am often bewildered and sad when I see someone who is unable to sit in peace, uncomfortable in their own company. To me it speaks volumes when you have to be constantly on the move unable to settle your mind.

Silence can be the answer to many of life's questions. It has the power to end quarrels, the power to develop great ideas, the power to calm the racing mind. There is a lot to be said for something we all have access to, free of charge. So why do so many of us ignore it's benefits? Why does the very idea of being silent strike fear in some? Perhaps we are afraid of what the silence will reveal?

Do yourself a favor and try it for yourself. Even for a short time to start, your mind will thank you for it!

Enjoy the silence.
