Decluttering means more than cleaning closets

Organize your life around your dreams - Losing.Living.Loving

You know that great feeling you get after a big spring clean? The feeling of accomplishment and lightness?

Imagine what a good spring clean could do for your peace of mind. Out with the old negative thoughts, in with a beautiful blank canvas ready to paint how we choose. What a lovely thought but is it possible?

I think we can tackle it by breaking things down into smaller areas. Let's start with the obvious ... our home.

There is a lot to be said about a minimalist lifestyle but in reality not all of us can bear to part with our possessions. For me the key is in organization. "A place for everything and everything in its place" is a common saying for a reason, it is calming to know where things are when you need them, it lessens frustration. I read a great tip recently, if you are questioning whether to get rid of something put it in a box for 30 days and if, after that time, you did not have use for it give or throw it away. The idea is that an uncluttered home leads to an uncluttered mind.

The second area I think needs a good clean up would be our social media accounts.

The best place to start here is your email inbox. We all have those emails that pop up daily that we no longer read, the ones that pile up. Take the time to unsubscribe to these, yes it ican be a daunting process but it is entirely satisfying. This can also help with temptation. By no longer seeing those emails from fast food places about their 2 for 1 deals and the like you can remain on track with your health. By not seeing the reminders that your favorite store has an upcoming blowout sale, you lessen the chance of buying unnecessary items. Remember you just decluttered your home, no need to go backwards. The same can be incorporated with both Instagram and Facebook. Unfollow those accounts that are not on board with the life goals you have set for yourself. Think of the money you will save with just a few simple clicks!

I think you see where this is going ... partaking in a physical cleanup helps to pave the way for a mental clean up of sorts. And it's here that the loop closes as we are back to the blank canvas I mentioned earlier.

So tell me ... how will you paint your canvas?
