Best of the Month - September Bookshelf

Nancy's Best of the Month - September Bookshelf

I am having a hard time believing that we are done with September already, it feels as if summer was over in the blink of an eye. I was hoping we would get more sunny fall days but if last week and today are any indication, we have a rainy October ahead. The silver-lining to this cloud is that rainy days are tailor made for readers, which brings me to the topic at hand.

I will be honest and say that September was not a standout month for reading, the books were good, but I was not blown away this month. I will say that I did enjoy getting back into an old favorite genre, paranormal romantic suspense. I was also introduced to a "new to me" author which is always fun and since it made my want to read further books by the author I have chosen his first book as my BOTM.

Holding by Graham Norton

Many of you may know the author as the incredibly successful host of The Graham Norton Show which is wildly popular on BBC, but it was news to me that he was an author of fiction books, autobiography yes, but fiction, I had no clue. So when Marian Keyes, a favorite author of mine, raved about his newest book on social media I had to check our where it all began.

This novel is set in a small village in Ireland (already I'm hooked) and is, for the most part, a whodunit with all of the quirky characters you would expect. I think for me what I enjoyed most is the character development and getting to know each of the villagers and how they grow during the story. I haven't looked further but this did leave me to wonder if any of these characters will pop up in future works by the writer? As many of you know I am a big fan of recurring characters in fiction writing and I do hope one or more make an appearance. I am definitely going to add Mr. Norton's next book to my list of TBR books.

October is already starting off well in the books department as I have finished one book and should be finishing up my audio-book shortly as well, coupled with a week off in the month, there should be quite a list on the bookshelf to review. LOVE IT!

Happy Reading!
